Abstract

THE RECHARGE MODELLING RESEARCH FOR PIASKI–SZCZYGLICZKA STORAGE RESERVOIR FED BY WATER PUMPED FROM NEARBY GROUNDWATER INFILTRATION INTAKE IN OSTRÓW WIELKOPOLSKIThe existing Piaski–Szczygliczka reservoir, consisting of two smaller basins (upper and lower), could be intended to recreational purpose only after being supplied with groundwater of good quality. Unfortunately Ołobok’s surface water was inapplicable, due to it’s contamination caused by the treated wastewater discharge up stream of the reservoir. Therefore close to the upper small basin the groundwater infiltration intake was constructed. The above mentioned groundwater intake was replenished by surface water gained from the Ołobok River upstream of the effluent discharge. In a result of undertaken modelling investigation, the optimization of Piaski–Szczygliczki reservoir recharge was defined. For this purpose the recharge of upper reservoir with surface water, the recharge balance of infiltration intake, as well as groundwater dynamics under specified water table in the main (lower) reservoir was estimated. The conception of mathematical model of this water system has been presented taking into account its impact on multilayered aquifer under steady flow and non-steady flow conditions. The step by step calibration of the model based on pumping test results conducted in wells of infiltration intake, as well as on monitored (3 months) exploitation of the whole system consisiting of water reservoirs, groundwater and surface water intakes has been also presented.
