Abstract

THE LAKE BASINS NEAR KALISZ IN THE LIGHT OF POLLEN ANALYSIS (WIELKOPOLSKA LOWLAND)Abstract. The paper presents the results of palynological investigations of lacustrine deposits from the W44, W48 sections at Grudzielec Nowy, and from Gutów near Kalisz. The vegetation succession is characteristic of the Eemian Interglacial with protocratic, mesocratic and thelocratic phases. In the Gutów section, Wartanian Glaciation and Vistulian Glaciation sediments occur above the interglacial deposits. The results were compared with earlier data from nearby localities of Grudzielec Nowy, Bieganin, Kwiatków Las and Gałązki Wielkie. Two types of the Eemian lake basins existed in the Kalisz Upland. At Grudzielec Nowy and Bieganin, they formed in a subglacial trough dated for the Wartanian Glaciation. At Kwiatków Las, Gałązki Wielkie and Gutów, those were closed basins developed from melting of dead-ice blocks. Deposition of peats and organic and mineral silts of different thicknesses occurred in all the lakes. Palynological investigations proved that the deposition started almost at the same time - at the beginning of the Eemian Interglacial, but it finished during different Pleistocene phases.
