Abstract

SURVEYING THE TECTONICS OF THE LUBIN-SIEROSZOWICE DEPOSIT DURING ITS MANAGEMENTAbstract. The paper presents the results of tectonic surveys of the Lubin-Sieroszowice deposit area during over 50 years of prospecting works. These results, supported by other fundamental investigations, are now the basis to present the mechanism and scale of processes with key participation of tectonic movements, which may have contributed to the formation of the copper deposit. A significant process affecting the primary mineralisation in the Permian deposits was the reactivation of structures trending NW-SE (Odra Fault Zone), W-E and NNE-SSW, constrained both by local transtension and the overall extensional regime in the Polish Basin during the Kimmerian movements. Secondary alterations of the ore horizon are linked with the Laramide movements that occurred between the Late Cretaceous and Early Oligocene, when the Mesozoic and Permian deposits underwent erosional and weathering processes in the Fore-Sudetic Block. Sub-horizontal ductile and ductile-brittle shear zones (top-to-the-NE) from the bottom of the Zechstein formation of the southern part of the Fore-Sudetic Monocline were also mobilised at that time. Accepting the idea of the thin-skinned structure of the southern part of the Fore-Sudetic Monocline, determined by the primary occurrence of Zechstein salts, helped development of the assumptions on the morphotectonics of the Middle Odra region.
