Abstract

FROM STATISTICS TO GEOSTATISTICS IN GEOLOGICAL INVESTIGATIONS OF LOWER SILESIA COPPER ORE DEPOSITS - 50 YEARS OF EXPERIENCE

Abstract. Variations deposit parameters is one of their characteristic features. Initially ordinary statistical methods were used for investigation of copper ore deposits. Great diversity of frequency distributions, variation coefficients, correlation coefficients and polynomial trend models was found within particular parts of deposits. Analysis of variance reveals that statistically homogenous parts varies in size from 0.5 to 29 ha, and 1-2 ha sized are the most common. Statistical investigations allow to determine accuracy of resources evaluation and design the representative sampling scheme. Geostatistical methods allow to describe the structure of deposit parameters variability and application of kriging to resources evaluation, optimization of sampling procedures and interpolation of parameters values for map construction. The confidence of resources prediction was increased through the introduction of nonparametric kriging. Geostatistical methods were applied also to the study of variability of concentration of associated metals: Ag, Co, Pb, Zn, Au, Pt-Pd. Multiyear study of application of varied mathematical methods to the study of copper deposit demonstrates their practical usefulness.
