Abstract

PALEOGEOGRAPHY AND FACIES DEVELOPMENT OF THE SIARY SUBUNIT IN THE MAGURA UNIT, SOUTH OF GORLICEAbstract. The Late Maastrichtian to Late Eocene deposits of the Siary Subunit were accumulated as a point source submarine fan, whereas the Early Oligocene deposits were originated as linear source slope apron-sand rich or multiple source ramp-mud/sand rich. Facies development, sedimentation rate and sequence stratigraphy suggest two stages of accumulation of sediments in the present Siary succession: the Late Maastrichtian-Late Eocene and the Early Oligocene. Considerable similarity of sediments of the Siary Subunit and of the Dukla Unit suggests that accumulation of their depositional systems took place in the same basin supplied by the same alimentary areas.
