HISTORY OF THE USE OF THERAPEUTIC WATERS IN THE KROSNO AREA AND THE PROSPECTS FOR THEIR EXPLOITATIONAbstract. Since the end of the 19th century, many boreholes have been drilled in the Krosno area, in which beside hydrocarbons also mineral water was detected. The chemistry of the mineral water is influenced by the proximity to petroleum and natural gas deposits. Shortly after the Second World War, an idea was created about the use of these waters for balneological and industrial purposes. The most advanced studies on mineral waters were conducted within the Potok Anticline, in the northern part of Krosno. Mineral waters associated with petroleum and natural gas deposits occur most frequently within the first and second Ciężkowice sandstone. Their mineralization is variable and ranges from a few hundred mg/dm3 to more than 40 g/dm3. The water is extracted by the Mac Allan 11 and Mac Allan 4 wells. Water from the Mac Allan 11 well was used for the production of iodine bromine salt in the early 1960s. In the years 1960–1962, the “Makalanka” mineral water, previously under the name “Krośnianka 4”, was periodically produced and distributed from the Mac Allan 4 well. Prospective areas for therapeutic water in the Krosno region are located in the northern part of the town in the former bitumen mines Turaszówka and Krościenko. In the Turaszówka Mine area, groundwater has been found virtually in all lithostratigraphic units, but it is themost common in the first and second Ciężkowice sandstones beds. The groundwater is best recognized in the Mac Allan field (Krośnianka Mine). This area is potentially the most advantageous for exploration and exploitation of therapeutic waters.Downloads
