Abstract

THE EFFECT OF POLITICAL AND ECONOMIC TRANSFORMATION ON THE COAL PRODUCTION LEVEL IN THE UPPER SILESIAN COAL BASIN IN 1914–1945Abstract. This article is a continuation of the deliberations on the Upper Silesian Coal Basin (USCB) in different historical periods. The period of World War I left its mark on the political and economic situation of the USCB, and the result of this conflict was the restoration of an independent Republic of Poland. The end of the war, however, was not the end of the of the political, social and economic transformations in the Upper Silesian Coal Basin. Only a few years after the war ended the borders of the Polish State were stabilized, and therefore the area of the Basin. The new division will affect of course boundaries, ownership, structure and coal mining. The interwar period was marked by the global crisis, uprisings and local conflicts. This resulted in the production of coal, formation or liquidation of mines, companies or corporations. World War II like no other political situation had imprint on the Upper Silesian Coal Basin and influenced the shape and the USCB economy.
