Abstract

LITHOSTRATIGRAPHY OF THE LOWER AND MIDDLE DEVONIAN BOUNDARY INTERVAL IN THE ŁYSOGÓRY REGION OF THE HOLY CROSS MTS (POLAND)

Abstract. A formal lithostratigraphic unit, i.e. Grzegorzowice Formation was distinguished at the Lower and Middle Devonian boundary in the Łysogóry Region of the Holy Cross Mts. This occurs between terrigenous sediments of the upper Emsian Zagórze "formation" and dolomites of the lower Eifelian Wojciechowice "formation". The lithologically diversified Grzegorzowice Formation consists of 8 members: Warszówek Member, Godów Member, Bukowa Góra Member, Wydryszów Member, Kapkazy Member, Rzepin Member, Zachełmie Member and Dąbrowa Member. The Lower-Middle Devonian chronostratigraphic boundary runs within the lower portion of the Dąbrowa Member and Zachełmie Member. Two units, i.e. Bukowa Góra Member and the Wydryszów Member, show the largest geographic extent. The remaining members are characterized by a lack of lateral continuity over a vast area. This report presents similarities and differences that occur between Lower and Middle Devonian boundary sequences in the Łysogóry and Kielce regions as well as neighboring geographic areas.
