GRAVITY SURVEY IN POLAND - ITS VALUE AND IMPORTANCE TO EARTH SCIENCE

Abstract. The aim of this study carried out within the research project on a Geoid in Poland was to describe and analyse the gravity surveys in Poland. The Base Gravity Network (BGN) and the semi-detailed surveys were especially extensively treated. Gravity field operations and data processing carried out entirely by Geophysical Exploration Company were described in detail. The accuracy of the gravity measurements and determination of the anomalies were also discussed. The created and enclosed catalogue comprises the qualitative and quantitative characteristics of the gravity surveys. A fairly large amount of information refers to marine surveys in the Polish sector of the Baltic Sea. Wide discussion concerns of creation the successive versions of gravity database and maps of the gravity anomalies. Major regional anomalies were distinguished and main sources of their origin were described as well. A great value of the gravity survey for geoscience research was emphasised.
