Abstract

Zn-Pb MINERALIZATION IN KOSZĘCIN-ŻARKI REGION (NORTHERN PART OF SILESIAN-CRACOW TRIASSIC PROVINCE)Abstract. Ore prognosis in the region between Koszęcin and Żarki (northern part of the Silesian-Cracow province) is based on zinc and lead anomalies in the Triassic carbonate rocks. Four perspective areas (I-IV) were identified within the Ore-bearing Dolomite, each limited by 90% probability line of at least 0.5% of Zn and Pb content. The Ore-bearing Dolomite appears the main lithological metallotect for Zn-Pb mineralization in all the compared regions. The form of orebodies in the analyzed region cannot be set due to sparse net of drillings. Zones containing above 0.5% of Zn or Pb are scattered in different parts of the profile in more than a 100-metre interval. Zinc is the dominant component in the Ore-bearing Dolomite and the sole one in the Diplopora Dolomite. The lead content increases from the west towards the east and southeast of the region. Zinc anomaly fields are elongated WNW-ESE, as are the Paleozoic structures. Prognostic areas are related to Triassic transverse faults, whereas Triassic longitudinal faults are noticeable in area I. Areas II and IV are situated above the Upper Silesian Block, whereas areas I and III are located above the Małopolska Block. Areas I and IV are situated close to Palaeozoic elevations. Indicator kriging, applied for the first time in Poland to Zn-Pb ore recognition, was successfully tested.
