Abstract

HYDROGEOLOGICAL ENVIRONMENT OF THE FISSURE-KARSTIC AQUIFER OF THE CRACOW JURASSIC REGION

Abstract. This paper presents characteristics of hydrogeological environment of fissure-karstic waters of the Cracow Juassic region with special reference to the results of field and laboratory investigations of hydrogeological properties of the Upper Jurassic aquifer, modelling of resources renewal, spring hydrogeology, and hydrochemistry. These investigations were conducted mainly as individual project KBN realized in 1998-2000. The Upper Jurassic fissure-karstic-porous aquifer is the main useful aquifer of Cracow Upland. It shows open character. Rock matrix blocks are treated as storage elements and fissures or karstic channels separating them — as transmissivity elements. In groundwater circulation, local systems are of essential significance and drainage of the Upper Jurassic aquifer is dispersed. Modulus values of resources renewal are from 4.85 dm3/skm2 to 6.06 dm3/skm2. Waters circulating in the carbonate karstic massif are mainly of HCO3-Ca hydrochemical type, fresh (M = 190-430 mg/dm3), slightly alkaline, of medium hardness, with relatively low concentrations of SiO2, Sr, Ba; in general they are aggressive (70% of the investigated population). Values of calcite saturation index SIC range from -1.36 to +0.66.
