Abstract

THE EFFECT OF POLITICAL AND ECONOMIC TRANSFORMATION ON THE LEVEL OF COAL EXPLOITATION IN THE UPPER SILESIAN COAL BASIN BEFORE 1914Abstract. The article presents the development of coal mining in the Upper Silesian Coal Basin from 1769 to 1914 (the beginnings of coal mining in the area date back to 1751) distinguishing between production levels for individual districts (Upper Silesian, D¹browski and Cracovian), taking into account the periods and the causes of stagnation and decline. The background, against which the level of coal production in the Upper Silesian Coal Basin is shown, is ownership changes. The characteristics of the main entities that owned the coal industry during the period are also presented.
