Abstract

ANALYSIS OF PAINTING LAYERS IN ORTHODOX CHURCH ICON PAINTINGS AT KORYTNIKI (SOUTHEASTERN POLAND)Abstract. The main aim of this work is to identify the grounds and mineral pigments in icons from ST Demetrius Orthodox Church at Korytniki near Przemyśl, collected at the Orthodox Art Department of the Castle Museum in Łańcut. The samples were analysed by optical microscopy, electron microscopy SEM-EDS and INAA in order to determine the stratigraphy of the artworks The detailed analyses of painting layers allowed to identified the brown, red, green, blue and yellow pigments.
