Abstract

ASSESSMENT OF STABILITY OF CURATIVE WATERS CHEMICAL COMPOSITION FROM ZDRÓJ GŁÓWNY IN KRZESZOWICE

Abstract. Zdrój Główny in Krzeszowice intakes sulfide waters from Miocene deposit. Exploitation of this intake has run since the 1780. Water from Zdrój G³ówny is being used only for balneological treatment. Since the 2002 Department of Hydrogeology and Geology Engineering (AGH – University of Science and Technology) has led up continuous monitoring of its water quality. Average interval between consecutive
samplings was ca. one month. Samples were filtered through membrane filter (0.45 μm) and transported to laboratory. Chemical analyses of 17 elements were performed with ICP-AES method (PN-EN ISO 11885:2001) and H2S determination were performed in the accredited laboratory according to norm PN-C-04566.03:1982. Between January 2004 and March 2008 51 samples were collected. The assessment of stability was performed for components, which influence on the hydrogeochemical type of water: SO42-, Ca2+, Mg2+ and H2S (RMZ, 2006). To identify and reject outliers there were used Box-and-Whisker Plots. Verification of data distribution was made on the base of results from the Shapiro-Wilk Test. Control charts (Szczepañska, Kmiecik, 1998, 2005) were used to assess the stability of examined components. On the basis of this analysis the following information was derived: the content of SO42-, Ca2+ and Mg2+ in water from Zdrój G³ówny in Krzeszowice is stable (most of values are in range x − 2σ, x + 2σ); SO42-, Ca2+, Mg2+ influences on the hydrogeochemical type of water (their content is greater than 20% mval); the upward trend for H2S was detected, however detailed analysis with GW stat programme showed, that this trend is statisticaly non-significant (for 95% confidence level).
