THE CALIBRATION PROCEDURE OF THE MULTI-PARAMETER MODEL OF TRACERS MIGRATION THROUGH GROUND SAMPLE

Abstract. In order to identify parameters of tracer migration in porous medium there was conducted laboratory and model research. Laboratory research was based on registering the breakthrough curves of selected tracers through sand sample in filtration column. Model research involved creating through Visual MODFLOW Pro v.3.1 and MT3D99 software, numerical model of filtration column and reflecting laboratory research conditions through numerical simulation. Identification of tracer migration parameters was conducted on numerical model by the method of succeeding iterations. The article presents in detail the calibration procedure of multi-parameter model of migration on the selected example. The procedure of calibration numerical model, which was worked out by the author, leads to achieving the set of parameters describing such processes as advection, hydrodynamic dispersion and adsorption. Calibration was evaluated by comparison of numerical and experimental breakthrough curves on the basis of author’s own criteria of compatibility of the curves. The results which were obtained underwent additional verification by the method of analytical solutions.
