USING FREE AND OPEN SOURCE GIS SOFTWARE IN HYDROGEOLOGY ON THE BASE OF GROUNDWATER MONITORING SYSTEM IN GDAŃSK AND SOPOTAbstract. Remote sensing and geographic information systems are widely used in Earth sciences in recent years (Hoffmann, Sander, 2007). For geologists, they are an essential part of research tools. In this technology hydrogeological reports and serial maps are made. On the market there are many commercial and free software packages distributed as desktop GIS and also designed to work in a client-server architecture. Is it possible the effective use of Free and OpenSource software (FOSS) as an integrator of spatial information gathered during the major hydrogeological project? How to do it, what components to use? This article is an attempt to answer these questions.Downloads
