Abstract

HYDROGEOLOGICAL ASPECTS OF PROSPECTION, EXPLORATION AND PRODUCTION OF SHALE GAS AND TIGHT GAS IN POLAND

Abstract. This is an attempt to open the discussion on hydrogeological aspects of prospecting, exploration and possible future exploitation of unconventional gas deposits in Poland. Due to development of sophisticated (advanced) technology during the last 8 years, the significant progress in the field of natural gas exploitation from unconventional deposits has been made. There are strong geological premises that such deposits in Poland may be perspective which stirs up enthusiasm about possible gas production from domestic sources. Due to a very fast development of shale and tight gas exploitation technology especially inUSAand Canada, people become more and more aware of water supply needs and environmental hazards of the process and hydrogeologists must get ready to give answers to many new questions. Environmental conditionality and environmental awareness of gas production process from unconventional sources, seems to be the key problem we will have to face in near future.
