Abstract

CHANGES OF CHEMICAL COMPOSITION AND GENESIS OF THE HEALING WATERS OF KAMIEŃ POMORSKI IN THE PERSPECTIVE OF MULTI-YEAR EXPLOITATIONAbstract. Therapeutic waters of the chemical type  Cl-–Na+, I- are mined by newly made bore-hole Edward III in the Kamień Pomorski Spa. Other intakes of similar chemical water types as Józef in Dziwnówek and Kamień Pomorski IG 1 in Międzywodzie are not operated at present. The boreholes are screened in Lower Jurrasic sandstones and only the Kamień Pomorski IG 1 borehole is screened in Triassic strata. This paper analyses changes in chemical and isotopic compositions of waters in Kamień Pomorski. The study proves that during operation of boreholes for screening healing waters Edward I and Edward II the chemical composition was subject to change. For the first borehole, an increase of the most vital macro components content was noted, which might be associated with an increased ascending feeding under conditions of intensive operation. Degrading technical condition of the hole has resulted in decrease of water mineralization as well as content of sodium and chlorides. During operation of Edward II intake, the chemical composition was variable, while for the majority of samples, component concentrations did not exceed initial values. Similar trend pertained to the evolution of isotopic components in water at that bore hole towards lower values of δ18O and δD compared to earlier measurements. The results of analyses of isotopic components and noble gases suggest that therapeutic waters from Lower Jurassic horizons are rated among waters that infiltrated before the Quaternary period. For newly borehole Edward III, waters of mineralization slightly exceeding that of Edward from its final operation period as registered. For the course of further operation of new borehole, an increase of brine mineralization should be expected in connection with increasing portion of ascending feeding.
