Abstract

RECENT DEVELOPMENT AND ACCESSIBILITY OF THE HYDROGEOLOGICAL MAP OF POLAND GIS DATABASE

Abstract. The database of Hydrogeological Map of Poland in Geographic Information System (GIS HMP) is managed by the Polish Hydrogeological Survey run by the Polish Geological Institute – National Research Institute. The Hydrogeological Map of Poland 1:50 000 represents a cartographic image of hydrogeological as well as economic and sozological conditions connected to the groundwater endangerment and protection. The map includes descriptional data and forms nationally standardised database of groundwater occurrences in Poland. Following the initial, sheet edition of the Hydrogeological Map of Poland, the consolidated and spatially unified digital database has been developed. In addition to the Hydrogeological Map of Poland the following additional constituents has been created: Hydrogeological Map of Poland – Top Aquifer – Occurance and Hydrodynamics; Hydrogeological Map of Poland – Top Aquifer – Vulnerability and Quality. GIS HMP database is systematically updated by comparing the information on the quality, dynamics and influence of any objects and economic undertakings on the state of the groundwater stored in the database to the results of actual (periodic) observations. Standard set of features, as per sheet edition of Hydrogeological Map of Poland 1:50000, is available in the Central Geological Archive of Polish Geological Institute.
