Abstract

CONTEMPORARY HAZARDS OF THE MINERAL AND THERAPEUTIC WATERS FROM POPRAD VALLEY (CARPATHIANS MOUNTAINS, SOUTH POLAND)Abstract. Poprad valley is an important region of the mineral and therapeutic water occurrence in Poland. As a result of the natural carbon dioxide (CO2) inflow from the deep the formation of the mineral and therapeutic, carbonated water is observed in a few sites. The gas-water systems in the areas of the occurrence of the carbonated water are very sensitive and easy to destroy. The main problem is connected with intensive land development, especially location of the new buildings within the carbon dioxide inflow zones. There are a few examples of the degradation of the carbonated water springs and intakes in connection with opening the new carbon dioxide pathways by land use changes (deforestation) and also the construction works and diggings.
