Abstract

THE ORIGIN OF MINERAL WATERS IN KRAKÓWAbstract. In the area of Kraków, mineral waters occur mainly in Jurassic limestones, Cretaceous marls and Paleogene and Neogene sands, which are covered by impermeable Miocene clays. Majority of these waters were recharged at the end of the last glacial, and the contents of chlorides are in the range of 70–750 mg/L. The water outflowing from a limestone horst on Skałka, near the Wawel Hill, is an exception with the contents of chlorides of ca. 1800 mg/L. That water is probably a mixture of typical glacial-age water with older Pleistocene water.
