Abstract

HEAVY METALS CONCENTRATION IN VISTULA FLOOD DEPOSITS IN THE MAGNUSZEW AREA (MIDDLE RIVER COURSE, CENTRAL POLAND) IN THE BACKGROUND OF VALLEY BOTTOM MORPHOGENESISAbstract. The concentration of heavy metals in fluvial deposits is strictly connected with the character of the river deposition, transport and erosion processes. Their presence in river waters is mostly connected with the smallest particles, organic as well as mineral transported in suspension. The dynamics of the high waters flow is of crucial importance for heavy metals distribution and activation after alluvia reworking. Investigations were carried out in Vistula River valley near Magnuszew (middle course). Differentiation of heavy metals distribution connected with recognised morphodynamic zones was detected. The highest content of Cu, Co, Zn, V, Cr and Ni was established in deposits of alluvial fans formed within crevasse zones. The highest content of Sr, Pb i As was detected in deposits filling up transformed oxbow lakes. The lowest content of heavy metals was determined in the main flood flow channel zones.
