Abstract

Abstract. The paper presents the problems with necessity of dewatering abandoned coal mines in the Upper Silesian Coal Basin. Due to the existing connections between active and liquidated coal mines it is necessary to dewater abandoned workings and to keep the underground water level under these connections. Dewatering operation is the main task of Central Department of Mine Dewatering (CZOK). Since 2001, its specialists have gained in professional experience with simplifying dewatering systems, mine water inflow and quality and their effect on the environment.
