Abstract

GEOCHEMISTRY OF SEDIMENTS AND WATER OF THE DZIEĆKOWICE ARTIFICIAL RESERVOIR (IMIELIŃSKIE LAKE), SOUTHERN POLANDAbstract. Contents of heavy metals and other elements in the water and sediments were studied in the Dziećkowice artificial reservoir supplying drinking water for the Katowice agglomeration. Sediment and water samples were collected from the reservoir's shore. The contents of Ag, Al, As, Ba, Ca, Cd, Co, Cr, Cn, Fe, Mg, Mn, Ni, P, Pb, S, Sr, Ti, V and Zn in sediments were determined using the ICP-AES method, and Hg - using the CY-AAS method, following hot aqua regia digestion. Determinations of B, Ba, Ca, Cr, Fe, K, Mg, Mn, Na, P, SiO2, SO4, Sr, Ti and Zn in water samples were performed by the ICP-AES method. The contents of Ag, Al, As, Cd, CI, Co, ('u, Li, Mo,Ni, Pb, Rb, Sb, Tl and U were determined by the ICP-MS method, Geochemical studies have indicated small contents of these elements in the water so it can be classified as very good quality water, fulfilling current guideline values established for drinking water in Poland, Sediments of the Dziećkowice reservoir contain small amounts of all the analysed elements and do not pose a threat to the water quality.
