Abstract


THE RECOGNITION OF GEOLOGICAL CONDITIONS OF COKING COAL OCCURRENCE IN THE JASTRZĘBIE AREA FOR THE PROJECT: SMART COKE PLANT FULFILLING REQUIREMENTS OF BEST AVAILABLE TECHNIQUES

Abstract. The paper presents the results concerning vertical and lateral variability of coking coal quality in the Zofiówka Monocline (SW part of USCB). In this area, the Zofiówka and Pniówek coal mines are located. They are of primary importance for the resources of coking coals in Poland. The results were obtained within a framework of the project entitled "Smart coke plant fulfilling requirements of best available techniques", financed by EU means. The procedure for the recognition of geological-mining conditions of coking coals occurrence, technical possibilities of coal mines and logistics of coal extraction were combined. Fulfillment of requirements for mining and ore geology makes possible to do a digital database on coking coal quality. Implementation of the project allows for a more efficient management of resources, and coke producers have possibilities of coal mines to deliver coal of desirable quality. The deposit of the Zofiówka Monocline is characterized by a wide variability of coal quality and rank and specific petrographic composition (increase of inertinite macerals content and presence of fluorescence bituminous substance). The paper shows the range and directions of changes of coal quality parameters in the deposit.
