Abstract

THE MINERAL SECURITY POLAND - ASSESSMENT OF NON-ENERGY MINERAL RESOURCES

Abstract. Mineral security is a part of governments' industrial and economic policies and describes the balance between the need for mineral resources and the actual mineral resources available through internal (extraction, processing) and external sources (imports). Internal sources (extraction, processing and recycling of mineral resources) need fo be carefully analysed: their quantity, feasibility of extraction, accessibility and collateral societal and environmental consequences need to be assessed. The role and importance of energy and non-energy mineral resources, their sources as well as their political and economic importance are diverse, and so the issue of resource security of each resource group should be analysed separately. Meeting the internal demand for resources through exploiting non-energy resources is limited. It calls for creating a state-wide resource policy. This paper presents a basis on which such policy should be structured, and outlines its goals.
