Abstract

GROUNDWATER FLOW MODELLING FOR EVALUATING THE ADMISSIBLE VOLUME OF EXTRACTED GROUNDWATER – TRICITY REGION CASE STUDY

Abstract. Hydrogeological conditions of the Tricity region are diversified. Its western part, the Kaszubian Lake Upland, is the recharge area, whereas its eastern part, marine lowlands, is the drainage area. There are four large groundwater intakes located in the upland area. The admissible volume of extracted groundwater has been estimated for two of the intakes. For this purpose mathematical models of groundwater flow were developed, and the interactions between groundwater intakes were verified. The model simulations showed an influence of groundwater exploitation on the groundwater, especially with the amount of maximum admissible resources. The exploitation caused the formation of a 15m deep regional depression cone. Almost the same result was received in both the independently constructed models. Such an intense groundwater abstraction also changes the regime of surface water flows. An infiltration of rivers is increasing and drainage is smaller, locally an upper water-bearing layer dries out and the streams in this area can periodically dry. As an effect of calculations, it was evaluated that the maximum level of exploitation for the Wiczlino intake is 650 m3/h, and for the Wielki Kack intake – 410 m3/h.
