Abstract

RESULTS OF GEOCHEMICAL MODELLING OF GROUNDWATER IN THE GYPSIFEROUS TRIASSIC SERIES OF THE DISHAT KORABI MOUNTAINS

Abstract The groundwater draining the Triassic gypsum series in the Deshat Korabi massif (at the border between Macedonia and Albania), composed of Mesozoic rocks, was subjected to hydrochemical research and geochemical modelling. The study focused on the waters of thermal springs in Dibra, which represent a multi-ion type and a deeper transitional flow system, and the waters of springs in Peshkopi, representing a SO4-Ca type and a local flow system. The purpose of the modelling was to determine the possibility of precipitation of gypsum and calcite in the waters of the groundwater flow systems in drainage areas. The differences in the distribution of speciations and SI index values in local and transitional flow systems were analysed by speciation modelling in the area of gypsum karet occurrence. For the qualitative evaluation of the processes affecting the chemical composition of local waters of the flow system, inverse and forward models were made.
