Abstract

EVALUATION OF THERMAL ENERGY FOR GROUNDWATER IN THE CENOZOIC AQUIFER OF THE FORE-SUDETIC BLOCKAbstract. The temperature of groundwater was used to produce hydrothermal maps of the Cenozoic aquifer in the Fore-Sudetic Block and to evaluate water thermal energy with special emphasis on the municipal groundwater intake. Based on empiric equations and regional climate-hydrogeologic data the approximate thermal energy was determined for the compressor heat pumps extracting shallow groundwater from depths of < 360 m in this aquifer. Although the results suggest that the value of thermal energy may reach above 147MWin the study area, the admissible volume of extracted groundwater appears to be spatially inhomogeneous. In order to select the areas with the most promising heating power, the water thermal energy was calculated for the individual municipal intakes such as residential and recreation areas, hospitals, offices and schools.
