Abstract
Domestic energy security policy and the role of rock salt deposits as sites for fuel storages and safe waste depositories
A b s t r a c t . The role and significance of underground storages becomes more important along with growing dependence of EU countries on fuels and energy supplies. As emphasized in the new draft of “Polish Energy Policy until 2030”, the necessity to diversify supplies of fuels and minerals requires opening new possibilities to increase energy security, especially in the case of transportation capacities of natural gas and oil pipelines as well as transshipment potential and storage facilities for these fuels in salt caverns. The development of the storage capacitiess will should make possible securing energy reserves for the domestic economy and support steps taken to diversiy supplies of energy raw materials.
