MEASUREMENT OF EFFECTIVE POROSITY OF ENVIRONMENT BY MEANS OF ELECTROLYTIC METHOD UNDER CONDITIONS IN SITU

Summary
The present paper deals with the determination of effective porosity of soils under natural conditions using electrolytic method of measurement of flow time of an indicator along a known interval. The author discusses the relation between the effective porosity and parameters of ground waters moving. Detailed formulae are derived as to a parallel flow (e.g. inflow into a channel) and to a radial flow (e.g. inflow into a well) for water-bearing beds characterized by free and perched water tables. Moreover, the author gives the results of porosity measurements on a model and in the field. It has been ascertained that a dependence exists between effective porosity and magnitude of hydraulic gradient at the time of flow.
