Abstract

POSSIBILITIES OF OBTAINING NEW VARIETES OF DEVONIAN MARBIES FROM THE HOLY CROSS MTS

Summary
The article describes newly found occurrences of Devonian carbonate rocks, characterized by remarkabIe decorative values, in the area of the Holy Cross Mts. These rocks were found in the eastern part of the Holy Cross Mts, at Grocholice, Ublinek, and Konorniki villages (Fig. 1). In quarry at Grocholice, a beautiful, uniquely patterned variety of Givetian organodetrital dolomites, cut by numerous veins of white crystalline dolomite or calcite (Figs. 2, 3, 4, 5), and black dolomites (Fig. 6) are exposed. At the nearby Ublinek village, exceptionally interesting type of dolomites was found. This type dolomites are out by numerous, differently oriented veins of white-pink dolomite and calcite (Fig. 7 and 8). An interesting variety of breccia type dolomites also occur here (Fig. 9). An interesting variety of organodetrital dolomites was also found in Komorniki area. These dolomites yield abundant coral fauna (Figs. 10 and 11). In the Iatter locality uniquely patterned Givetian limestones and also exposed. All the rocks discussed above can easily be ground and polished. Their physical properties are given in the Table included in the Polish text.
