MINERAL WATERS AT SOPOT

Summary
The drilling Sopot IG-1 was made in the years 1972--73. Geological objective of that drilling was to recognize hydrochemical profile down to the top surface of the Zechstein. Practical aspect was to catch mineral waters for the use of the planned Sopot resort. The drilling reached the depth 1173.2 m, penetrating the top of the Zechstein at the depth of 1159.5 m. The Zechstein is here represented by anhydrites. Limestones occurring in the neighbouring areas of Puck and Hel are missing here. Hydrogeological sampling was made within the Triassic strata, strictly speaking within the Bundsandstein. Two aquilifers were sampled effecting self-flow of brine. For exploitation purposes water was taken from a layer at the depth 772-836 m; pipe perforations were made at the depth 800.0-833.5 m. The output of self-flow water at the level 2 m above ground surface is about 44 m3/h. Water table is stabilized 17.8 m above ground surface. Mineralization level of the water equals 44 g/l. According to the principles of mineral water classification, widely accepted in Poland, the water can be defined as chlorine-sodium, iodine, bromium, boron, or radone. The drilling Sopot IG-1 has been given to District Reumatological Hospital in Sopot. The article contains relevant information about the drilling IG-1 with special consideration of the use of the mineral water for curing purposes.
