Abstract

REMARKS ON QUANTITATIVE PETROGRAPHICAL ANALYSIS OF GRAIN PREPARATIONS OF COALS

Summary
The article deals with the quantitative petrographical analysis of grain preparation of coals.
In the petrographic analyses of coals the following methods are applied:
a) macroscoping profiling of coal seams,
b) investigation of thin sections in translucent light,
c) investigation of polished sections in reflected light,
d) investigation of grain preparations in reflected light.
As concerns characteristics of coal seams, the practice has shown that the quantity analysis of grain preparations is, among all the methods, mentioned above, of most important value there.
The coals being investigated originate from the Upper Silesian Coal Basin and represent the type 32 (gas-flame coal). In the present paper there are three microlithotypes discussed, viz.: fusain, vitrain and durain.
