Abstract

THE WROCŁAW MONOCLINE AND ITS RELATION TO THE ADJACENT UNITS

Summary
Area of the Lower Silesia shows the Tertiary blocky structure. The Sudetes make here a horst separated from the Foresudetic block by Sudetic marginal fault. The Foresudetic block, in turn, is seperated from the north-east occurring Wrocław block by dislocation of the Middle Oder, probably also of Tertiary age. The Wrocław block consists of crystalline basement and of a Permian-Triassic series plunging flat to the north-east. A special term - the Wrocław Monocline - is being proposed to this unit.
The Wrocław Monocline is connected with the Permian-Triassic series of the North Sudetic synclinorium through the vicinities of Żary, which form an anticlinal uplift or an uplift limited by the faults in that place, where plunging of the crystalline basement of the Foresudetic block is to be seen. As concerns the Permian-Mesozoic series of this area, the author proposes a new term - the Krosno Odrzańskie unit. In that area there occur oil deposits in the Zechstein series.
Primarily, the Permian-Mesozoic series lay between Wrocław and North Sudetes, directly on the Foresudetic crystalline basement. As a result of both the Kimmeridgian and the Laramide movements, characteristic of their fault-fold processes, this series had been eroded before sedimentation of brown coal formation took place.
The Sudetic marginal fault has originated at the turning point of the older and the younger Tertiary times.
