Abstract

PERMIAN NORTH OF THE HOLY CROSS MTS (CENTRAL POLAND)

Summary
The Holy Cross Shelf distinguished on the SE border of the Central Polish Basin (31) is tectonic in character. It is framed by dislocations: the Pilica River in the west, the Nowe Miasto - Przytyk - Iłża in the northeast. The scarp has developed along the Tomaszow Maz. - Nowe Miasto - Grójec one in the north. Prior to the Zechstein transgression a flood plain existed on its north downthrown wing (Fig. 1). The Holy Cross upland crossed by paleovalleys has undergone denudation which resulted in a stratigraphic gap embracing at least the whole Rotliegendes. The Zechstein Sea expansion was strongest in the PZ1 and PZ3 cycles and definitely weaker in the PZ2 and PZ4 ones. The structures that existed on the shelf have undergone evolution which is expressed 'by lithofacial changes (Figs. 4 - 8). The early Buntsandstein deposition was preceded by a period of denudation. Reinterpretation of the profiles and revision of correlation of the Zechstein deposition cycles has been done as well in comparison with adjacent areas (Figs. 2 i 3).
