Abstract

ON POSSIBILITIES TO USE MAGNETIC METHOD FOR ENRICHMENT OF ALITHIC ROCKS FROM THE LUBLIN COAL BASIN

Summary
The possibilities of magnetic enrichment of selected group of alithic rocks from the Lublin Coal Basin are discussed with reference to their mineral composition. This discussion is preceded by a general geological-deposit characteristics of alithic rocks found in that Basin.
Bauxite from the drilling Kolechowice-24 (samples la and 1 b) appears to be characterized by most advantageous properties from the point of view of possibilities of enrichment by high-gradient magnetic method. The content of aluminium oxide is here markedly higher that in the remaining rocks. This component mainly occurs here in the form of boehmite and kaolinite and siderite is the major carrier of iron. The latter is usually present in the form of ooids which may be treated as advantageous from the point of view of effects of magnetic enrichment. The products obtainable from the Kolechowice bauxite may yield Alps in amounts of about 60%. The remaining rocks represent varietes of kaolinite alite. In comparison with the above described bauxite, they yield both siderite and hematite. Therefore, magnetic enrichment leads to small increase in content of Alps.
