Abstract

GOLD-BEARING ROTLIEGEND-ZECHSTEIN TRANSITION SEDIMENTS OF THE NORTH SUDETIC TROUGH NEAR NOWY KOŚCIÓŁ (SW POLAND)

Summary
Gold mineralization occurs near NowyKościółalong 1 km-wide zone in sandy and argillaceous rocks (0.2-0.6 m thick) at the Rotliegend/Zechstein boundary. The average gold content varies from 193 to 1498 ppb but can locally exceed 3000 ppb. The primary (?) mineralized masses are characterized by argillaceous-carbonaceous materials containing probably microscopic gold, with considerable amounts of Fe oxides. In view of the regional metallogeny of the Polish Kupferschiefer Cu-Ag and Au-Pt-Pd deposits, it is proposed here that the gold occurrences are the products ofregional oxidative alteration related to volcano-sedimentary activity in the Permian basin.
