Abstract

On load-casted ripples

Plano-convex structures attached to the bottom surfaces of thin sandstone layers are described. Sections show these structures to be clusters of load-casted ripples. The clusters originate when the sand is transported in incomplete ripples over a yielding substratum. The sinking of one ripple prevents from passing the succeeding ripples. They tend to heap upon the first one and subsequently one upon another, pushing those already burried still further down into the mud. Some sole markings associated with load-casted ripples are also discussed.
