Abstract

The possibilities of improvements in electric logging In all practically used electrical resistivity lagging methods the .potential is to be measured under the constant current intensity. However, the authors found that in salty muds the conductivity (or resistivity) is characterized not by the potential but by the intensity of the current leaking from the bore-hole to the beds. Therefore in such conditions the optimal solution is to register the current intensity changes, the feeding voltage being stabilized, tout not convertly. In the paper the theory of the electric field in the bore-hole has been discussed and the measuring device to log the current leakage presented, as well as the examples of its use. Presented device is very simple and easy to use. It does not require practically any particular electronic equipment and it is possible to construct it of standard electric logging tools, just by simple combination of electrodes. The device has the vertical resolution of the same class as laterolog, but eliminates the unwanted effects of surrounding beds. The mentioned device has been found very practical one, and is widely used in sailty muds, particulary in the Permian Basin on the Fore Sudetic Monocline (Poland).
