Abstract
On the origin of menilite shales
The author has found Diatomaceae in the Menilite Shales (Upper Eocene) of the Western Carpathians. Some Radiolaria and spiculae of Spongiae have also been stated. It is probable that the presence of Diatomaceae in the Menilite Shales is due to cold currents which were presumed by Bośniacki (1911) for explanation of boreal forms in the fish fauna of the same period.
