Abstract

Krzysztof Emil Beres (1915–1944), geologist, soldier of the Home Army.A b s t r a c t . Krzysztof Emil Beres was a promising young geologist, assistant of the Department of Geology at the Jagiellonian University in Cracow, employee of the Warsaw University of Technology and associate of the Polish Geological Institute. After the outbreak of World War II, he joined the Union for Armed Struggle and later the Home Army. He fought under the pseudonym Krzyk (Scream). In the summer of 1944, he died armed at Kajetanowice near Radomsko. At the place of his death, there is a commemorative cross, originally founded by his mother, the actress Jadwiga Hańska. The Polish Geological Society awards young scientists a scholarship named after him.
