TECTONIC ANALYSIS OF STRESS FIELDS AS A PROSPECTING CRITERIONSummaryAncient tectonic stress fields may be reconstructed by means of: (a) empirical methods, e.g., inferring from preserved strain fields, (b) deductive methods, e.g., calculations based on accepted premises, and (c) experimental methods, e.g., modelling of optically active materials observed in polarized light. Such analyses may be of some importance for general prognosis of ore-forming conditions (Fig. 2), for detailed prognosis of ore locallization (Figs. 3-5), for determining optimal directions of ore exploitation, and for further surveying of already known ores (Fig. 6).
