Abstract

MINERALOGICAL EXAMINATIONS OF MAGNESITES FROM THE WIRY REGIONSummaryIn 4 types of magnesites distinguished by Z. Gajewski, i.e. in I - white, compact magnesite, white, II – white friable magnesite, III - grey, white magnesite and IV - yellow magnesite, mineral ' composition was examined by means of thermal-differential, X-ray and chemical analyses. It results from the examinations that the type I, i.e. white, compact magnesite, showing a slight admixture of calcite and quartz, represents the purest variety. Yellow magnesite differs from white, compact one only in having a greater ferruginization degree. The two remaining types - II and III - reveal a considerably higher percentage of admixtures. These consist of the following minerals: serpentinite, talc, quartz, chalcedony and iron oxides.
