Abstract

THE PROBLEM OF IDENTIFICATION OF THE ZABRZE (SADDLE) BEDS IN THE JEJKOWICE TROUGH OF THE RYBNIK CARBONIFEROUS

Summary

The detailed profile of the Zabrze (saddle) beds (Namurian B), that occur in the Jejkowice trough of the productive Carboniferous within the Upper Silesian Coal Basin, has been described on the basis of new geological data . As a result of the correlation with the Rybnik, Jankowice and Marklowice areas, another vertical extent of the profile of this group of beds (about 250 m) has been established, different from that hitherto accepted. In addition, numeration of the coal seams from the group of saddle beds occurring in the Jejkowice trough underwent changes as follows: seam Wincenty (510) = seam 508/2, seam Gellhorn (509) = seam 508/1, seam Beata (508) = seam 507, and seam Olga (507) = seam 504. Consequently, it has also been found that the geographical distribution of the group of saddle beds occurring in the Jejkowice trough is greater than actually accepted on the basis of the outcrop of the seam Wincenty - a supposed equivalent of the seam 510.
