Abstract
Influence of salt brine on the number of bacteria in water and sediments
A b s t r a c t . The influence of 35 and 60 PSU brine on the number of bacteria in water and bottom sediments was assessed on the basis of counts of numbers of bacteria in the sample after 1 h and 24 h contact. The obtained results evidenced that contact of such brine after 1 h and 24 h was insignificant for the total number of psychrophilic and mesophilic bacteria as well as of ammonifying, denitrifying and amylolytic and proteolytic bacteria in examined water and sediment samples. 60 PSU brine noticeably reduced number of bacteria indicating fecal pollution. It was stated that 35 PSU and 60 PSU brine reduces the numbers and finally eliminates Escherichia coli and fecal enterokoki bacteria
