Abstract

Small prototype of ORC power plant fuelled by water at 100oC: first experimental results.A b s t r a c t. A general layout and principle of operation of the power plants based on the Organic Rankine Cycle (ORC) are presented together with an overall analysis of the effectiveness of such type of installations. This is followed by a more detailed description of the ORC research installation that has been originally designed, built and successfully put into operation. Substantial part of the paper is then devoted to design assumptions of that small ORC power plant that is fuelled with hot water at the temperature of 100oC, has nominal output of 22 kW and is located at the Department of Heat Engineering,West Pomeranian University of Technology in Szczecin. The R227ea organic fluid with low boiling point is used as the cycle working medium. Finally, first experimental results of the power plant tests and conclusions are given.
