Abstract

An 18th-century picture ofWieliczka – an interesting and rare image of the mine and town.
A b s t r a c t. An 18th-century drawing has been found in the Institut de France in Paris. This is a valuable iconographic source for both the town of Wieliczka and the mine, originating from the 1860s. Particularly important are the views of buildings and mining objects whose iconographic records are scanty (Church of St. Clement; Church of St. Spirit; Regis, Wodna Góra, Leszno and Daniłowicz pitheads; underground Chapel of
St. Anthony) or their appearances were previously unknown (underground Chapel of St. John of Nepomuk), as well as the imagery of techniques of mining, transportation, mine dewatering and mine working protection.
