Abstract

The digital geoinformation resources of the Polish Geological Institute as the main source of geological information.
A b s t r a c t: The great variety of information, possibilities of spatial analyses, implementation and open access to public data have become solid foundation to establish the new information society in the 21st century. Information must be valid, reliable and accessible. The majority of thematic geological data providing by Polish Geological Institute is now available and published on-line by internet applications. Detailed Geological Map of Poland, Hydrogeological Map of Poland and Geoenvironmental Map of Poland at 1 : 50 000 scale are the biggest cartographic national projects which have been implemented in last years. Now, the web PGI Geoportal enables access to map browsers, databases and other services (Web Map Service - WMS, Web Feature Service – WFS, Catalog Service for Web – CSW – metadata catalog). The most important thematic databases in PGI are: Central Geological Database (CBDG), Landslide Counteracting System (SOPO), Detailed Geological Map of Poland (SMGP), Hydrogeological Map of Poland (MHP), Central Hydrogeological Data Bank (HYDRO BANK), mineral deposits (MIDAS), engineering-geological atlases of urban agglomerations and many more.
