Abstract

Assessment of unconventional gas resources in Poland.A b s t r a c t. The paper summarizes information on gas resources in Poland, especially unconventionals. There are proven, though not very large, resources of conventional hydrocarbons and coalbed methane – the inventory is carried out by Polish Geological Survey. Recently undiscovered shale gas and tight gas resources have been assessed by Polish Geological Survey and other organizations. In previous decade undiscovered coal bed methane resources have been estimated as well. There were a number of studies on undiscovered conventional gas resources carried out in previous decades providing ever higher estimations of the undiscovered gas potential. These studies were also targeted on an intermediate category of gas resources – deep gas and/or tight gas resources in conventional traps. Putting all together, it seems the undiscovered potential of gas resources (both unconventional and conventional) in Poland is a quite impressive and various types of hydrocarbon resources coexist in respective hydrocarbon basins.
